Dealing with the Opioid Crisis within the Community Supervision Field
SESSION INFO
Tuesday, March 12, 2019
11:15 am - 12:15 pm
Session Type: Workshop
This presentation will feature an overview of the Marion Superior Court Probation Department’s Opiate Supervision Project followed by a panel discussion. The Opiate Supervision project is an attempt to help address the ever-growing addiction to opiates experienced by adult clients serviced by the Marion Superior Court Probation Department. As part of this program, clients experiencing an addiction to opiates are placed on an intensive probation supervision. The target population consists of Level 6 felony or higher clients who are admitted or identified opiate users with an Indiana Risk Assessment System risk level of moderate or higher. Before this project was begun, the department lacked a program specifically focused on and dedicated to this problem, and it is now better able to effectively address the affected population. The panel will be comprised of some of the project’s key stakeholders, and they will do their best to shed some light on this difficult problem and ways to combat it.
