Reentry on My Mind: The Georgia Prisoner Reentry Initiative

This workshop focuses on the development, implementation, and success of the Georgia Prisoner Reentry Initiative (GA-PRI). The presenters will discuss the driving factors that led to its creation, how the framework impacted and supported service delivery, and the challenges of managing and coordinating components from multiple Bureau of Justice grants. The presenters will also share key findings from an independent study completed by Applied Research Services on the effectiveness of the GA-PRI. They will conclude by going over the next steps Georgia plans to take to further improve the reentry process. Participants will be challenged to take similar steps in their own jurisdictions and will be aided.

SESSION PRESENTERS
Renee Snead
Operations Manager for Reentry Services, GA Department of Community Supervision
Renée Snead is the Operations Manager for Reentry Services for the Georgia Department of Community Supervision (DCS). In this role, she is responsible for the coordination of the statewide reentry initiative and the implementation of the statewide recidivism reduction grant. Additionally, she has served as a Co-chair for Georgia’s Reentry Education and Employment Committee. Prior to working for DCS, Renée was the Director of Public Policy and Advocacy for the Central Advocacy and Outreach Center. Renée received her BA and JD from Mercer University and an M. Div. from Emory University Candler School of Theology.
Dir. Michelle Stanley
Director, GA Department of Community Supervision
Michelle Stanley is the Deputy Director of Field Operations for Reentry Services for the Georgia Department of Community Supervision. Prior to joining DCS in 2015, Michelle served in various capacities with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice over a span of 21 years to include: Director of Operations, Assistant District Director, Program Manager, Transition Counselor, and Probation Officer. Her career in state government began in 1995 as a Caseworker Sr. with the Division of Family and Children Services. Michelle holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia College and a M.B.A. from the University of Phoenix
