Special Session: The Role of Field Work in Community Supervision

This panel will feature findings from Abt Associates’ National Institute of Justice grant to evaluate the effectiveness of home and field contacts in community supervision. The study was designed to begin to address the gap in our understanding of home and field contacts as part of community supervision by 1) describing the varying practices of home and other field contacts in community supervision, 2) to document their use nationwide, and to 3) evaluate their effectiveness in maintaining public safety and promoting compliance with supervision requirements. Panelists and participants will discuss the implications of the study’s findings for the field, and set a direction for future research. Panelists include the Abt study team, Katrina Ransom from the Ohio Adult Parole Authority, Eric Martin from NIJ, and Julie James from the Laura and John Arnold Foundation. Discussion will be moderated by Nathan Lowe, APPA.
