FBI N-DEx: Discussing a National Information Sharing Solution for Community Supervision Professionals
SESSION INFO
Monday, August 19, 2019
4:15 PM - 5:15 PM
Session Type: Workshop
An estimated 4.3 million adults are currently under some type of formal community supervision in the United States. While these numbers have been trending down slightly, states have been under increased pressure to bring greater efficiencies to their supervision processes, including more rapid notification in the event a supervisee comes into contact with the criminal justice system or otherwise violates a condition of release. The challenges with today’s information-sharing environment lie not in a lack of available data, but in the inability to quickly access pertinent information across disparate local, state, regional, and national systems. This workshop is designed to outline the current national landscape of criminal justice information sharing, to elicit feedback from audience members on state and local information-sharing challenges, and to provide a useful overview and demonstration of the FBI’s National Data Exchange--a free online system for providing nationally-scaled, continuous evaluation and notification tools for the supervision community.
