Multi County Rural Treatment Court: A 10 Year Review
SESSION INFO
Monday, March 11, 2019
4:15 pm - 5:45 pm
Session Type: Workshop
Minnesota launched and funded two pilot projects in 2007 to explore ways to expand drug courts statewide in a cost-effective manner. One of these projects involved three counties with a predominantly rural population working together to create the Brown, Nicollet and Watonwan County Treatment Court. These counties commenced a year-long process of putting together a program that saved money by sharing a traveling judge, coordinator, and fiscal host. The coordinator worked with key players in each county to develop policies that crossed county lines and plowed through law enforcement, prosecution, and other "turf" issues to establish a program that has won state awards and now has 10 years of success behind it! We will share with you how we did this, and some of our key players (judge, probation, and surveillance officer) will discuss the pains and successes of this program that has dramatically changed many lives.
