RISING is a specialty court which provides court-involved youth alternatives to a gang lifestyle, using a holistic approach of supervision involving treatment, family involvement and court intervention. RISING is a community-based behavior modification program, developed to address the delinquency behaviors of court-involved youth the ages of 12-17 who are at high risk of participating in gang activity. The program seeks not to redirect participants away from participation in gang activity and modify their cognitive thought processes regarding antisocial behavior which will significantly increase the likelihood of their becoming productive law-abiding members of society.

SESSION PRESENTERS
Wayne Grannis
Presiding Judge, Cobb County Juvenile Court
Judge Wayne E. Grannis was appointed to the Cobb County Juvenile Court bench in August of 2018. In 1998, Grannis started as a Juvenile Probation Officer and then Lead Investigator, where upon completion of his Juris Doctorate, he became a staff attorney to the Chief Judge of Fulton County Juvenile Court. He later represented dependent children as a child advocate attorney for 3 years. From 2008-2017, Grannis served as Assistant District Attorney, Senior Assistant District Attorney, and Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney for the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. In 2017, Grannis joined the Cobb County District Attorney’s office as a supervising attorney of the Juvenile Unit. Grannis received his B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia in 1989, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Golden Key National Honor Society. Grannis attended Georgia State University where he graduated Cum Laude, earning his J.D. in 2003.
