In a time when agencies have to provide more services with fewer resources, it becomes imperative for staff to distinguish those individuals with serious mental health concerns from those with a personality disorder. This presentation merges academic and practical knowledge that will allow attendees to recognize the antisocial personality disorder as it presents itself in treatment and the community. In addition, staff will become more alert to safety concerns with this population

Carol Gilcrease, LCSW, has spent 28 of her 30+ years in mental health at Louisiana State Penitentiary working with convicted felons, some with serious mental illness but the majority with antisocial personality disorder. Being able to work with offenders in this environment on a regular basis over a period has offered her insight into their thought process and behavior. She is a licensed clinical social worker, who received her MSW from Tulane University, is a current board member with the Louisiana Correctional Association and past president of the Southern States Correctional Association.
