SafeWrap was created by Gracie University in response to inquiries from healthcare institutions that needed a way to safely restrain aggressive, suicidal, or emotionally disturbed patients in hospitals. The system utilizes no joint locks or choke holds, was specifically designed to avoid compression of the diaphragm to facilitate breathing and reduce the potential of a panicked response in the restrained individual.
The system was so effective in healthcare applications, it was quickly realized that SafeWrap had the potential to save lives and minimize traumas across various sectors, from law enforcement to first responders, while maintaining the public’s confidence in the frontline personnel of these organizations.

Rener Gracie
CEO and Head Instructor, Gracie University of Jiu-Jitsu
Rener Gracie was born into the family that founded Brazilian jiu-jitsu and the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). His jiu-jitsu journey began before he took his first steps, and he earned his black belt at nineteen. In 2009, with the help of his brother, Ryron Gracie, he broke the mold of traditional martial arts instruction by creating the first interactive online learning center for Brazilian jiu-jitsu, which today boasts over 350,000 students in 196 countries. Headquartered in Southern California, Gracie University has over 250 certified training centers worldwide. In addition to inventing the SafeWrap lateral restraint system, Rener has invented several products including Quikflip Apparel, the sweatshirt that converts into a backpack, and the Sleeper Hold, the world's best travel pillow; and has appeared on ABC's Shark Tank.
