Restorative Action Planning: Teaching Staff and Offenders How to R.A.P.

Participants in this program will gain a deep understanding of the effects of their action(s) /inaction on those they have victimized. They will be able to enact a pro-social script and initiate positive actions with their Victim(s). In doing so, the Participant will more effectively be able to restore the damaged ties to their Victim(s) and community. Once Participants commit to program participation (Plant the tree) they will detail all the impacts of their action(s) /inaction on those they have victimized (Tree Branches). They will then be able to present detailed empathetic Victim Impact ‘Scripts’ to peer groups and the Victims themselves. Finally, the Presenter will create and complete an attainable ‘Restorative Project’ for The Victim(s) in the efforts to make The Victim ‘whole’ again.

Mr. Richard Irving Robinson
Lead Consultant, Robinson Consulting Services
Prior to his work at INL, Mr. Robinson began his career in Human Services over 30 years ago, providing care for mentally and developmentally disabled youth and adults while working within multiple state agencies. Mr. Robinson has since served within, and retired from, the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections after serving for over two decades in such roles as Youth Corrections Officer, Training Specialist, Youth Program Officer, Quality Assurance Manager, Youth Program Manager, Training Officer, Academy Commander, Inspector, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, and Regional Juvenile Parole Supervisor. He has also served as an Administrator within the Office of Juvenile Justice in Louisiana, The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services, and the Fairfax County, Virginia Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. Mr. Robinson has served as a Technical Assistance Consultant through the Department of Justice – National Institute of Corrections, and in private practice, since 2000. Mr. Robinson has traveled nationally, establishing consulting relationships with multiple state and local agencies. His international experience encompasses time spent in, Israel, Italy, Kenya, Mali, Mexico, Morocco, Niger, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Spain, and Tunisia. He has obtained a Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice from Arizona State University, and his Master of Education in Educational Psychology/Human Relations from Northern Arizona University. As a father of two, Richard personally enjoys fun with his family, and professionally, promoting the best practices curriculum design, as well evidence-based juvenile, and restorative justice programs.
