Resilience is the ability to thrive in challenging circumstances. It means to think clearly, analyze situations objectively and make the best decisions. It's a sign of strength, resilience and emotional intelligence. It's a skill you can develop. Michael J. Reinhart is an expert in resilience in high stress/ high consequence environments. His unique perspective and expertise in resilience comes from his many years traveling to the world's wild places as an adventure journalist and through interviews with many of the best explorers and adventurers. This presentation will give attendees an understanding of the mindset and skills necessary to go into a challenging project with the ability to think clearly and make good decisions in high pressure situations. They will gain these abilities by adopting the mindset of successful explorers. People who go into extreme places, facing unknown challenges where a wrong decision could mean death and succeed where most fear to go.

Hon. Michael J Reinhart
Superior Court Judge, Kings County Superior Court


Michael Reinhart is a Superior Court Judge assigned to a felony trial department. He served as the Court’s Presiding judge during which he guided the court’s return to a new normal post Covid. Prior to going to the bench, Mike worked as a Deputy District attorney rising to the position of Chief Deputy. His cases included the prosecution of gangs, including the Hells Angels, capital murders and high-profile corruption cases. In his other life, Mike is an adventure journalist and host of the podcast Whiskey and a Map. A podcast that features explorers and adventurers sharing their exploits and the keys to their successes. As an adventure journalist, he has traveled across four continents and into the jungles of Borneo and Cambodia, the highlands of Guatemala, across Europe, Kenya and among the Amazigh peoples of Morocco. Mike is also a former adventure racer having competed in and finished the Eco Challenge Expedition Race- One of the toughest races in the world. To survive and succeed in these endeavors, Mike has had to learn the hard lessons and principles of critical decision making. There is mindset and there are skills common to successful explorers and adventurers. Mike has lived and studied them. The result is The Four Principles of Effective Critical Decision Making: The Mindset of the Decisive Leader. A program he wishes to share with others to empower them to become more resilient leaders that excel in critical decision making.
