SESSION PRESENTERS
Dr. Tania Yvette Appling
Director of Professional Development, GA Department of Juvenile Justice Office of Training
Tania Appling is the Director of Office of Professional Development at the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) where she oversees DJJ’s professional development courses for agency staff. Dr. Appling has been employed with DJJ since 1997 and has worked in several capacities within the DJJ. As Director, she has been instrumental in developing, launching, and overseeing several leaderships, specialized/core training programs, launching new learning management system and eLearning leaning platform. Dr. Appling is an active member American Parole Probation Association, serving on the Executive Board of Directors as the Board Treasurer, previous Board Member at Large, Leadership Institute Mentor, served as the Program Chair and Co-Chair for the two Winter Training Institutes. Dr. Appling is the current Council Training Chair for the Central Georgia Council of Boy Scouts of America and Board member for GA Schools of Addiction Studies. Dr. Appling received her Ph. D. in Educational Psychology from Walden University and holds master’s degrees in educational psychology (MED) and public administration (MPA) from the State University of West Georgia. Dr. Appling holds several certifications including Master Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Instructor and is John Maxwell-Certified Coach, Teacher, and Speaker. She is an active member in American Counseling Association, American Correctional Association, and The Association of Women Executives in Corrections. Dr. Appling enjoys curriculum development and presenting on leadership, wellness, and juvenile-related topics at national and state conferences/seminars. She enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her beloved Pebbles.
Kimberly Stevens
Training Program Supervisor, GA Department of Juvenile Justice Office of Training
Kimberly Stevens is a dedicated and passionate individual with a strong commitment to personal and professional growth while providing services to the DJJ stakeholders. Ms. Stevens is a Public Safety Training Supervisor at The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, where she has the privilege of leading Public Safety Training Instructors and the Co-Coordinator for the POST Instructor Certification Course. Ms. Stevens began her career as Juvenile Parole and Probation Specialist- (JPPS) in the SE district in DJJ. During this time, Ms. Stevens worked in several capacities as a JPPS 3 and Juvenile Program Manager, Victim and Volunteer Program Coordinator to provide services to the youth in our care as well as to oversee the duties of the staff in her line of supervision for over 10 years. Ms. Stevens holds a Bachelor’s in Sociology and a Master of Public Administration degrees. MS. Stevens has a wealth of experience of presenting at APPA, GA Schools of Addiction Studies, and National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice.
