Breaking Down Barriers To Success In A Rural Community.

Participants will learn how one rural county collaborated with stakeholders, got creative, and used law related educational techniques to engage youth, reduce referrals and inspire change. Working with the spirit of JDAI, a lack of providers and roadblocks to youth obtaining proper services, Mohave County created Project AIM, an evening reporting center, to Inspire youth to do better, Instill strong values and Motivate others towards positive changes. You will hear from the Treatment Supervisor, the Field Supervisor and the Juvenile Detention Administrator on how they all collaborated in an effort to make a difference in their rural community. They will demonstrate how law related education works, what programs it can be applied to, and how to break down barriers to success.

SESSION PRESENTERS
Sara Colbert
Deputy Probation Officer Senior, Mohave County Probation
Sara has worked in the probation field for 11 years and currently serves as the Treatment Supervisor for Mohave County Juvenile Probation. Her experience with probation has been comprised of a variety job assignment, including adult pre-sentence writer, adult field officer, juvenile standard and intensive officer, and her current position as a Juvenile Supervisor. Sara is involved with Crossover Youth, Drug Court, Mental Health Court, Title IV-E, and Project AIM. Sara received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Eastern Illinois University in 2003 and her Master of Science in Family and Human Development from Arizona State University in 2018. She resides in Kingman, Arizona with her husband, Tracy.
Natalie Eggers
Deputy Director Juvenile Court Services, Mohave County Probation
In 2011 Natalie graduated from Southern Utah University with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with an Emphasis in Forensic Science. Natalie completed an internship with the Iron County Juvenile Probation Department just prior to graduation which led her to the field of probation. She is currently a Deputy Probation Officer Senior with Mohave County Probation in Kingman, Arizona. Additionally, she has served her department in every juvenile position and currently supervises officers with Standard, Juvenile Intensive Probation Supervision, Drug Treatment Court, and Juvenile Health and Wellness Court caseloads and she supervises a Surveillance Officer and the Interstate Compact Caseload Officer who is also the Victim Rights’ Coordinator. Natalie will have earned her Master of Science Degree in Family and Human Development from Arizona State University by July 2019. She loves probation work and strengthening youth and families. She takes pride in her own family and is outnumbered by her husband and two young sons.
Amber Freed
Juvenile Detention Administrator, Mohave County Probation
Amber has worked in the field of probation/detention for 19 years and currently serves as the Juvenile Detention Administrator for Mohave County Probation. Her career in probation began as an adult field officer, with assignments to include a sex offender case load, and Intensive Probation officer. Eventually moving into juvenile probation as a Juvenile Intensive Probation Officer and Intake and field supervisor. Amber is involved with the Gloria Dusek Compass School and Gloria Dusek Opportunity School. She received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri in 2000, and has completed the Arizona Court Supervisor Program and the National Center for State Courts Court Management Program. She resides in Kingman, Arizona with her husband and son.
