Dr. Howard is a Cherokee Nation citizen and has worked for the Cherokee Nation tribal government since 2013. In her current role, she works as the Coordinator for the DUI and Clinical Assessment program, which is new to the Cherokee Nation. Dr. Howard has worked diligently to develop it over the last 2.5 years. The program focuses on bridging interactions between the tribal court system and tribal citizens to increase access to services and overcome barriers for tribal citizens who are engaged with the legal system. In 2010 Dr. Howard created and implemented the first Animal Assisted Therapy Program for Cherokee Nation at the Jack Brown Residential Treatment Center and then in 2019 Dr. Howard created and implemented policy and program requirements for a Department of Labor grant that worked to help those who have been negatively effected by the Opioid Crisis. Dr. Howard completed her Bachelor of Social Work in 2007, Master of Social Work in 2011, and a Doctorate of Social Work in 2020 with a focus on Advanced Clinical Practice and Clinical Management. She also holds a Master of Law with a focus on Indigenous Peoples Law from the University of Oklahoma in 2018.
