Veterans with police involvement, criminal charges, or incarceration often have difficulty navigating the traditional justice system and obtaining positive outcomes. We will cover reasons a veteran may have difficulty with reentry. resources avaiable and how the officer can access those resources. Creative ideas for working with veterans will also be presented

SESSION PRESENTERS
Jessica Blue-Howells
HCRV, US Department of Veterans Affairs
Jessica Blue-Howells, MSW – serves as Deputy Director, Veterans Justice Programs in the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. In this role Jessica supports over 400 field staff across the United States who provide outreach and services to Veterans involved at any point in the criminal justice system. Jessica also oversees VA’s annual CHALENG needs assessment, which engages input from Veterans and homeless service providers across the country to help communities identify and plan to address unmet needs. Jessica has served as a co-investigator and operational partner on studies focused on homeless and justice involved Veterans and has published in the areas of health services use among justice involved Veterans and needs of homeless Veterans. Jessica earned an MSW at University of California, Los Angeles, and a BA in Psychology from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.
