SESSION PRESENTERS
Shawn Satterfield
Director, FL Department of Corrections
Shawn Satterfield is the Director of Operations for Community Corrections with the Florida Department of Corrections. In this role, he oversees statewide operations, guiding corrections professionals responsible for supervising more than 140,000 adult felony offenders. He also serves as the Emergency Management Coordinator for Community Corrections and directly oversees the Bureau of Probation & Parole Field Services and the Bureau of Community Programs.
Mr. Satterfield began his career with the department in 1997 as a probation officer and has held multiple roles leading up to his current position. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University and brings over 27 years of corrections experience. He is an active member of the Florida Association of Community Corrections (FACC), the Florida Council on Crime and Delinquency (FCCD), and the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA).
Mrs. Maria Stephenson
Research & Data Services Director, GA Department of Community Supervision
Dr. Maria Stephenson has over 18 years of experience in criminal justice. Currently serving as the Director of Research & Data Services at the Georgia Department of Community Supervision, Dr. Stephenson oversees both internal and external research initiatives, data collection, and data transparency for Georgia’s adult felony community supervision population. She is a Senior POST-Certified Instructor, a Certified Facilitator of various evidence-based programs, and a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor II. Dr. Stephenson earned her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Walden University, where her research focused on probation and parole officers' experiences addressing the criminogenic needs of adult felony offenders. She also holds a Master of Science in Human Services from Capella University, a Master of Philosophy in Criminal Justice from Walden University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Mercer University.
Dir. Joe W Winkler
Assistant Secretary, FL Department of Corrections
Joe Winkler serves as the Assistant Secretary of Community Corrections with the Florida Department of Corrections, where he provides oversight to 140 probation offices statewide and direction to correctional staff supervising 150,000 adult felony offenders.
Mr. Winkler serves on the Board of Directors with the Florida Association of Community Corrections and the National Association of Probation Executives. He is the Florida Commissioner of Interstate Compact and on the Board of Governors with the American Correctional Association. Mr. Winkler is a member of the National Institute of Corrections Probation and Parole Executives and the American Probation and Parole Association.
