Providing Opportunities for Global Collaboration: The Supervision Around the World Project

The Supervision Around the World (SAW) Project is a non-profit global endeavor that identifies countries offering supervision services, documents current practices, builds relationships with administrators, and is creating an interactive internet repository for gleaned program information.
Researchers have identified best practices for helping offenders reintegrate to society and practitioners in different countries have implemented these practices in creative ways. Our purpose is to share innovative models that are successful or showing promise. While cultural differences may exist within specific operations, core elements can be transferable and provide a positive foundation for replication in any location.
This collaborative process can help to focus priorities, encourage staff, support savings in resources and budgets, and allow administrators to take fewer risks while still exploring creative solutions. The SAW Project continuously works to share examples of innovative supervision models representing creative opportunities to support clients and build safer communities around the world.

SESSION PRESENTERS
Ms. Willow Baker
Peace Education Program Director, The Prem Rawat Foundation
Willow Baker is the Program Director for The Prem Rawat Foundation’s Peace Education Program. She is a member of the American Probation and Parole Association’s International Relations Committee, a peace ambassador for the Institute of Economics and Peace, and a former professor at the Sorbonne University’s Communications and Journalism School in Paris, France. Willow has extensive experience with international collaborations to support innovative and effective programs. She is passionate about empowering people to discover their humanity, personal peace and inner strengths.
The Prem Rawat Foundation is a humanitarian organization whose purpose is advancing dignity, peace and prosperity through a variety of international programs and initiatives.
Julie Truschel
CEO, SAW Project
Julie Truschel has an extensive employment history in criminal justice, working since 1985 in various capacities of juvenile and adult corrections that includes institutional and community-based programs. She has held direct service and administrative roles for government as well as private industry employers. Involvement with researchers while creating the ‘What Works’ curriculum made a dramatic impact, after which she began working with administrators nationwide to integrate evidence-based practices (EBP) into existing and newly designed operations. Her current focus is creating and directing the Supervision Around the World (SAW) Project.
