Considering Someone is High Risk: Identifying and Responding to the Crime Producing Needs of High-Risk Individuals

The risk assessment scores someone as high risk, so what’s next? This engaging training will build an understanding of the underlying characteristics that make a person high risk. Participants will take a deeper dive into crime-producing needs such as aggression, risk taking, and antisocial attitudes. Time will be spent on effective high-risk interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Programs, Core Correctional Practices and Carey Guides. Participants will develop skills by practicing on a simulated case. Participants will enhance their understanding of the link between specific criminogenic needs and tools to respond.

SESSION PRESENTERS

Brandi Glore
Parole Officer, OH Department of Rehabilitation and Correction


Brandi Glore is a Parole Services Supervisor with the Ohio Adult Parole Authority; she currently oversees a specialized unit that supervises parolees with severe and persistent mental health issues. She joined ODRC in 2006 and has held the positions of Correction Program Specialist and Parole Officer. She is a certified facilitator of Cognitive Behavioral Programing, including Decision Points and Thinking for a Change. She coordinates the Case Review Committee for Columbus Region, a project that reviews cases to enhance evidence-based practice responses. She instructs a wide range of evidence-based practices. She instructs at Ohio Parole School.


Seth Howard
Parole Officer, OH Department of Rehabilitation and Correction


Seth Howard is a Parole Supervisor for the Ohio Adult Parole Authority. He has been a licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor III for over nine years. He is certified in Ohio Risk Assessment System, Core Correctional Practices Motivational Interviewing and is a Crisis Intervention Team member. He has earned a bachelor’s in criminal justice.


Andrew Pietras
Parole Officer, OH Department of Rehabilitation and Correction


Andrew Pietras a Parole Officer in Columbus, Oho. He is an evidence-based practice trainer for Ohio Parole. He is a certified facilitator for Cognitive Behavior Programs including Thinking for a Change and Decision Points. He co-coordinates program referrals for Columbus Parole. He was previously a case manager and program manager for a Community Based Correctional Facility where he helped program participants work through cognitive behavior programming and interventions. He has a bachelor’s in criminal justice from Baldwin Wallace University.


Joseph Suciu
Parole Program Specialist, OH Department of Rehabilitation and Correction


Joseph Suciu is a Parole Program Specialist for the Ohio Adult Parole Authority and currently coordinates grant projects, where he is instrumental in development of updated Evidence Practice trainings and applications. With over 20 years of experience as a Motivational Interviewing trainer, he has developed multiple MI training curriculums for criminal justice professionals. He has trained extensively on evidence-based practice. His trainer certifications include Ohio Risk Assessment Systems, Level of Service Inventory, Thinking for a Change Facilitator, Decision Points Facilitator, Core Correctional Practices. He obtained a Master of Science from the University of Cincinnati in Criminal Justice.
