Probation has helped lead the change in the juvenile justice field and rose to the challenge to make juvenile justice realignment a success in California. This training focuses on how probation has helped lead this change, the metrics they use to assess progress, and the evidence-based programs and approaches to treating youth in the justice system that has helped transform California’s juvenile justice continuum.

SESSION PRESENTERS

Chief Esa Ehmen-Krause
Chief Probation Officer, Contra Costa County Probation


Experienced community corrections professional with a demonstrated history of working in the juvenile justice and correctional systems. Skilled in program development and implementation of Evidence Based Practices, community engagement, safety and emergency management, policy and legislative analysis, criminal justice reform, public speaking, and grant administration. Chief Ehmen-Krause was appointed Chief Probation Officer of Contra Costa County in California in March of 2020. Prior to serving as Chief, she was the Assistant Chief Probation Officer in Alameda County California from 2015-2020 and Deputy Chief Probation Officer, Juvenile Facilities Division from 2011-2015. Prior to Alameda County she was a Superintendent at South Bend Juvenile/IDOC.
