The Do’s and Don’ts of Effective Coaching

In this workshop, we will discuss how to consider things such as different roles within an organization and learning styles to individualize and tailor coaching to target specific persons and needs. You will also learn new ways to apply coaching via telework and practice creating a coaching exercise or tool with techniques that you can then apply within your agency. The goal is to learn the coaching do’s and don’ts to increase job productivity, staff retention, and staff development.

SESSION PRESENTERS

Shanyea Nevings
Supervisor - Electronic Monitoring, Marion County Community Corrections


Shanyea Nevings has worked for Marion County Community Corrections in Indianapolis, Indiana for 6 years. She has held the position of Case Manager, Team Leader, Residential Case Management Supervisor, and currently serves as an Electronic Monitoring Supervisor. She graduated from Indiana University-Indianapolis in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Spanish. While at IU-Indianapolis, she completed a 240-hour internship with Homeland Security and a volunteer mentorship program assisting youth with re-entry after incarceration. Shanyea has supervised various caseloads during her tenure and has been involved in various initiatives within the agency, including Chair of the Employee Engagement Committee, a trainer for the Diversity Series Training, and beginning implementation of an Emerging Adults caseload. When Shanyea is not working, she enjoys spending time with her Bengal cat, traveling, and completing mission trips through her church.
