Leading with Purpose: Discussing the Impact of the NIC Community Supervision Leadership Learning Lab

Katie Green is a Correctional Program Specialist with the National Institute of Corrections overseeing and actively participating in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of resources to enhance the competencies of criminal justice practitioners. Prior to joining NIC 11 years ago, Katie was a criminal justice practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia leading organizational change efforts, improving pretrial and community corrections services and programming by leading the implementation of evidence- based practices. Included in her portfolio with NIC, Katie manages resource development for community supervision organizations to include leadership training and professional development for staff that provide direct supervision to persons under community supervision. Katie over sees training and technical assistance projects to advance the work of community supervision organizations. Currently she is managing the development and implementation of the Community Supervision Leadership Learning Lab and Facilitating Behavior Change trainings. Katie is also developing resources and training for local criminal justice systems, focusing on Criminal Justice Coordinating Councils (CJCCs).

Kevin Kuehmeier is a Senior Associate at JSP. He currently works assisting criminal and juvenile legal systems and community partners with transforming their systems. Mr. Kuehmeier provides technical assistance to several jurisdictions involved in the Safety and Justice Challenge through the MacArthur Foundation to safely reduce jail populations, eliminate ineffective and unfair practices, and reduce racial disparities. He provides pretrial assessment training and implementation assistance, strategic planning assistance, and is working with the National Institute of Corrections assisting with leadership development and training, Organizational Coaching Assessment assistance in several jurisdictions, and development of resource videos for community supervision professionals. Mr. Kuehmeier has 25 years of experience working for the U.S. Courts - Federal Probation and Pretrial Services. He has 12 years of experience working as an Administrator with the U.S. Courts providing national organizational assessment, technical assistance, and recommendations regarding policy and procedure improvements. He was at the forefront of policy development and national training and implementation regarding evidence-based practices, assessments for pretrial and probation, supervision of those on pretrial and post-conviction, treatment services, and core correctional practices. He received a BS and MS in Criminal Justice from Buffalo State University.

Dr. Tameka Vaught Williams is a Senior Associate for Justice System Partners. She has over 15 years of experience working in higher education and the criminal and juvenile systems. Tameka began her career as an adult probation officer and later transitioned to a juvenile court counselor. In both positions, she provided high-quality case management and oversight to court-involved adults and youth. Later in her career, she shifted to the quality assurance aspect of public safety and was responsible for implementing, supervising, and evaluating community and evidence-based programs. Before joining JSP, Tameka served as the Director of Student Support and a Clinical Assistant Professor at North Carolina Central University. In this role, she taught numerous criminal justice courses and is well-versed in curriculum development, student coaching, and delivering instruction in both online and face-to-face modalities. Tameka graduated from North Carolina Central University with dual bachelor’s degrees in political science and criminal Justice and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice. She received her Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Tameka’s research focuses on correctional managers’ leadership development, Black barbershops and beauty salons as community anchors, and the barriers to leadership for women in the workplace.
