In this session, participants will identify gaps in training and professional development when it comes to promoting into a leadership role. The material will explore successful practices in team building, packaging and delivering information, and ultimately, how to create curriculum for participant’s specific needs – both personally and within their agencies. The session will engage participants with activities in effective communication, as well as provide practical guidance on how to build successful teams. The Facilitator, Charles Kelley, will share his experience of identifying crucial leadership development needs, along with his journey of creating curriculum that has been put in place and already proven to be successful within his agency.

SESSION PRESENTERS

Charles Kelley
Community Supervision Manager, Marion County Community Corrections


Charles Kelley graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice/Criminology. His career has taken him from a youth detention facility to electronic monitoring case manager, and up the chain of command into his current leadership role as the Manager of Community Supervision for one of the largest electronic monitoring programs in the United States. Throughout his career, he has recognized that promotional decisions are typically based on technical skills, and that there is a large gap in the area of leadership development. He has since developed his own Leadership Concepts training curriculum, as well as a 12-month Leadership Development Series. He is also a certified trainer in established programs for Continuous Quality Improvement, Diversity, and the Peace Education Program.
