Condition Setting in Supervision: Working Through Bad Habits
SESSION INFO
Monday, August 28, 2023
3:45 PM - 5:15 PM
Session Type: Workshop
Conditions and requirements are the crux of probation and parole supervision. The average person under supervision has 17 to 25 conditions. As part of a study funded by Arnold Ventures, this session will outline a process for helping officers assess whether conditions are excessive, appropriate, and useful. The methodology includes: 1) Pooling experiential knowledge; 2) Defining success on supervision for the individual and for the officer; 3) Forming practice to reduce problem behavior and increase well-being; and 4) Using evidence-informed opinions to help shape practice. This training helps officers figure out what are the conditions that should yield improvements in supervision compliance and achieve improvements in factors that reduce drivers of criminal behavior.
