Not SMART, but the HARD Way to Fulfilling Goal Setting

In this session, participants will learn the differences between SMART and HARD goals. Participants will broaden their abilities to case plan and feel more fulfilled within the workplace. This session will include examples utilized by leadership at Marion County Community Corrections as they implemented HARD goals with front line staff. Presenter(s) will explain barriers that they faced and the difficulty they encountered through the process of making their goals less SMART. And yes, this process was HARD.

SESSION PRESENTERS

Ryan Gilman
Manager - Operations, Marion County Community Corrections


Ryan Gilman graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Criminology with minors in Leadership Studies and Interpersonal Relations. Over the past 5 ½ years, Ryan has implemented several leadership styles as he moved through the ranks at Marion County Community Corrections (IN), moving from Case Manager to the Manager of Operations over the agency’s 24/7 Client Services Center (call center), the Processing department, the Field Team, and Law Enforcement Liaison. Ryan deeply cares about staff and client success, and actively seeks innovative ways to help motivate people to reach their goals. Additionally, Ryan is a UCCI certified trainer for Motivational Interviewing.


Kyle Mishler
Client Services Supervisor, Marion County Community Corrections


Kyle Mishler graduated from University of Indianapolis with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. During his tenure in human services he has worked with Eskenazi Health Hospital in childhood development, Department of Child Services in Marion County, and Marion County Community Corrections. Starting as a call service representative, he moved into leadership with Community Corrections with a passion for facilitating positive change with his team, peers, and community. As a supervisor, he oversee the Client Services Center which operates on a 24/7 basis. Kyle is a UCCI certified trainer for Motivational Interviewing.
