Adventures in EBP—Indiana’s Contingency Management Initiative

A large body of research supports the use contingency management principles in community supervision. This workshop will demonstrate the importance of stakeholder buy-in and officer skills in implementing a contingency management system to improve offender outcomes. The presenters will share the results of Indiana’s feasibility and outcome pilot studies and a few surprising lessons learned along the way. Presenters will also share information on current efforts at statewide implementation, including skills-based trainings, merger with the State Evidence Based Decision Making Team, and technical assistance opportunities.

SESSION PRESENTERS

Jennifer Bauer
Staff Attorney, Indiana Office of Court Services


Jennifer Bauer is a staff attorney with the Indiana Office of Court Services. She is a graduate of DePauw University and the Indiana University Maurer School of Law. Ms. Bauer served as project manager for the contingency management pilot projects.


Angie Hensley-Langrel
Program Coordinator, Indiana Office of Court Services


Angie Hensley-Langrel is a program coordinator with the Indiana Office of Court Services. She is a graduate of Indiana University and received her MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University. Ms. Hensley-Langrel is a certified trainer in the Indiana Risk Assessment System, Case Management, EPICS, Real Colors, Interviewing Skills, Continuous Quality Improvement, and Think Trauma. She served as staff for the contingency management projects.


Dr. Paula Smith
Associate Professor, University of Cincinnati


Dr. Paula Smith is an associate professor at the University of Cincinnati School of Criminal Justice. She received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of New Brunswick, Saint John in 2006. Her research interests include offender classification and assessment, correctional rehabilitation, the psychological effects of incarceration, program implementation and evaluation, and the transfer of knowledge to practitioners and policymakers. Currently, she provides training and technical assistance to criminal justice agencies throughout the United States and Canada. Dr.Smith served as the principal investigator for the IOCS contingency management pilot projects.
