The ORAS 2.0: The Collaboration Between Revalidation and Implementation

This session will focus on an ongoing project which aims to revalidate the Ohio Risk Assessment System (ORAS). The presenters will discuss the importance of revalidating the ORAS and connecting research driven tool and practical application. This session will also highlight the development and practical implication of a violence predicting tool.

SESSION PRESENTERS

Dionne Addison
Program Administrator, OH Department of Rehabilitation and Correction


Dionne Addison has over twenty-eight years of experience in corrections. Currently, she is a Program Administrator for the Quality Assurance/ EBP/ Grant section in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. She is responsible for continuous quality improvement and quality assurance for evidence-based practices and serves as grant administrator for various BJA grants. Dionne is a certified master trainer in ORAS.


Chris D'Amato
, University of Cincinnati Corrections Institute


Christopher D’Amato is a research associate for the University of Cincinnati Corrections Institute and a PhD candidate at the University of Cincinnati School of Criminal Justice. His main research interests include the examination of the validity and reliability of risk and need assessment tools, the evaluation of correctional practices and programs, and the consideration of race/gender disparity across the criminal justice system. He has five years of experience working on and managing research projects. Christopher D’Amato regularly leads risk and need assessment validation and reliability studies for agencies at the local and state level. Additionally, he has experience in program implementation, program evaluation, and training practitioners in evidence-based practices. Stephanie Starr has over twenty-five years of experience in the field of corrections. She currently holds a position of a Program Administrator in the Adult Parole Authority Quality Assurance Section. This section is responsible for continuous quality improvement efforts with ORAS, EBP, etc. This section also oversees multiple federal grants and initiatives. Stephanie is a certified trainer and master trainer in many curriculum to include, Decision Points, Core Correctional Practices, Anger Control, ORAS, etc.
