Over 1,200 Probation and Parole Professionals to Attend APPA Conference in Las Vegas
For Immediate Release: 07/17/2008

The American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) is pleased to hold its 33rd Annual Training Institute at the Rio All Suite Hotel, 3700 West Flamingo Rd., August 3-6, 2008. Attendees will convene from across the U.S. for over 70 Workshops, an Exhibit Hall with the most up-to-date technologies used to supervise offenders in the community and Intensive Training Sessions on topics such as offender workforce development and alternatives to juvenile detention.

With over FIVE MILLION ADULTS under probation or parole supervision in the U.S. at the end of 2006, the work of probation and parole officers, supervisors and administrators is vitally important to the safety of our communities. This Training Institute is an opportunity for attendees to learn about new ways to approach issues such as supervising diverse populations, using cognitive behavioral and motivational interviewing techniques to help offenders help themselves to better behaviors and lifestyles and maintaining safety in the field.

Attendees will also have several opportunities to see and learn about supervision technologies such as Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) tracking, non-invasive alcohol monitoring and treatment services for offenders. Members of the media are invited to visit the Expo during the following hours: Sunday, August 3 – 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm; Monday, August 4 – 10:00 am to 11:00am, 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm and 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

The Rio All Suite Hotel requires notification of any media attendance at our Institute so please notify Diane Kincaid at (859) 227-6836 prior to your arrival.
