SafeWrap™ – The Future of 2-on-1 Restraint
Monday, January 27, 2025 | 03:15PM - 04:45PM PT
Rener Gracie
CEO and Head Instructor
Gracie University of Jiu-Jitsu
Join Rener Gracie for a special presentation of the new SafeWrap™ lateral restraint system that has been adopted by the Los Angeles County Probation Department.
SafeWrap™ was created by Gracie University in response to inquiries from healthcare institutions that needed a way to safely restrain aggressive, suicidal, or emotionally disturbed patients in hospitals. The system utilizes no joint locks or choke holds, and was specifically designed to avoid compression of the diaphragm to facilitate breathing and reduce the potential of a panicked response in the restrained individual.
The system was so effective in healthcare applications, it was quickly realized that SafeWrap™ had the potential to save lives and minimize traumas across various sectors, from law enforcement to first responders, while maintaining the public’s confidence in the frontline personnel of these organizations.
With probation and parole officers under increasingly higher levels of scrutiny surrounding the use of force, this is a presentation you do not want to miss!
Training Objectives
Attendees will learn:
● The four potential risks of traditional prone restraint
● The core applications SafeWrap (2-on-1 restraint) system
● The core applications of the SafeDown (2-on-1 takedown) system
● The two methods of third-party intervention during UOF encounters
● The three solo-officer survival skills everyone should know

This special session will consist of the following two relevant training topics:
Fit for Duty: Physical Health for Officer Safety
(two hours)
Overview: Officers regularly place themselves in harm's way to protect others. Too often, however, they do a poor job of addressing their own well-being. This presentation will use a data-driven approach to identify potential long-term health risks that come from working in law enforcement. This presentation will focus on the physical aspects of officer health and identify purposeful actions that can be taken to attain and maintain optimal health and fitness.
Safety through Mental Wellness and Resilience
(two hours)
Overview: This training examines the leading cause of officer death - suicide. This reality emphasizes the importance of officers investing in their mental wellness. During this session, attendees will learn how to take back control of and be responsible for their health and wellness. Mental wellness enhances agency goals, officers’ safety, and officers’ personal satisfaction through ensuring work-life balance.

Justice-Involved Individuals Career Fair
Tuesday, January 28, 2025 | 09:00AM - 01:00PM PT
Sponsored By
American Probation and Parole Association is hosting its second Career Fair for Justice-Involved Individuals.
APPA is inviting employers who hire individuals with criminal records to take part in the career fair by hosting a recruitment table. If you are interested in hiring prescreened Las Vegas area men and women who are on active probation or parole supervision and who have a strong desire to work, this event is for you.
As justice-involved individuals strive to successfully re-enter their communities, they need opportunities to secure gainful employment and become productive, tax-paying citizens. These individuals have a variety of skills and talents that can easily benefit employers. They need a second chance at employment. As noted in author Jeff Korzenik’s book, Untapped Talent: How Second Chance Hiring Works for Your Business and the Community, “Second Chance Hiring Isn’t Charity, It’s Good Business!” It is good business for employers who can see the untapped talents of those with criminal records and who are willing to invest in human potential.
Contact APPA’s Project Coordinator, Delores Johnson, by email at djohnson@csg.org to reserve your spot now.
